Emmalee's Surgery

And she’s off for her procedure. She’s starving, tired and cranky but doing ok.

She’s out of surgery. No abnormalities or obstructions. Her trachea has some flattening and signs of fatigue. Our next course of action is to see a neurologist and a pulmonologist. We are being admitted for the night. They will monitor her for apnea and want to keep an eye on her pulse ox and her coughing spells.

We are settled in our room on the pediatrics floor. She is all hooked up and ready for monitoring. She is completely exhausted. She is agitated when awake and very congested and her little voice sounds so hoarse and raspy. We are just going to hunker down and snuggle the night away. No visitors are permitted due to it being Flu season. We are doing ok. We have felt the love and support. We have a plan in place going forward to rule out reasons of why she has this bronchial/barky cough/voice which I guess is a sign of other underlying health issues. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Their immediate concerns at this point are her lungs and brain. What triggers the cough and does she have a reactive airway? If so, why and how can her symptoms be managed? All of these answers will come with time. We are praying for the answers but also not trying to “look” for things that may not exist. We weren’t concerned about her coughing until her pediatrician and ENT expressed their concerns and then we felt bad for just being complacent with her having a barky cough. We just thought since she was born with it that it was just her voice. Her Dr. will be here in the morning to check on her and help us navigate the road going forward. Hopefully, she won’t have sleep apnea and they can scratch that off the list.

Emmalee has an appointment with the neurologist tomorrow at 1pm here at the hospital. Baby girl hasn’t been fully awake quite yet and when she was stirring, she was agitated. She is resting comfortably now with the pain meds:)

She finally woke up around 6 and we gave her pain meds and she ate well. She spent the evening FaceTiming family and friends, snuggling, playing with toys, watching tv and cooing at the nurses. Her voice and cough sound horrible:( Dada came to visit for a bit and now we are hopefully going to get some sleep.
