Homeschool

Homeschooling is in full force around here. Alicia and I are tag teaming on some days. Beaverton School District has mapped out ten day’s of school work and activities. Week one complete.

Anderson’s teacher sent a recipe for him to make pretzels. He followed the instructions and did an awesome job! So proud of him

Caralynn’s teacher posted some videos for Caralynn. She read books and sang songs with the kids. Caralynn was able to FaceTime her. What a tender mercy. Caralynn has really been struggling with this change in her routine and schedule. So blessed to have amazing teachers who care and have touched my children’s hearts and minds.

We found an art class online. Everyone enjoyed it and I love how they turned out. So fun! 

 Remote learning is going well. The Beaverton school district has done a great job dividing the work up into days and providing links and websites. 

Homeschool looked like this today...kiddos did pretty well getting back into learning:) I have to believe that as we consistently stick to a schedule, there will be less arguing, resisting and complaining. This is not easy for any of us but we are determined to make it work. Anderson took a virtual tour of the revolutionary war museum. Caralynn worked on writing and recognizing her letters. Anderson worked on measuring with a ruler, finding the grammar and spelling errors in sentences on study ladder. Caralynn played sky fish and spent some time on pbskids.org. Anderson read an article about a girl who builds with dominoes and how to make them fall a certain way to create art. All the kiddos made a lion using simple shapes cut out of cardboard. Anderson worked on fractions and multiplication problems. Productive day all around.

What does homeschooling look like at your house? At our house, it’s an opening prayer to start the day off right, bodies on the floor, kids at the table, kids with devices in their laps, snuggles, noses inside a book or listening ears as a book is read. Comfy recliners, board games and yummy snacks during mental breaks. Rides on hoverboards with puppies, gathering around the tv to watch a science lesson live on YouTube. Challenging a kiddo to perform 5 flips on the trampoline in the rain because they just can’t sit still for one minute longer and need an outlet. Homeschooling these kiddos is the hardest job I’ve had in a long time but I’m also grateful for this time and opportunity to make memories and show them how important it is to band together during tough and uncertain times. I want them to know how much I value their education and knowledge. I’m not perfect and THIS IS NOT PERFECT OR IDEAL. But we can find the joy and come what may and love it!
