Feeding Therapy

A few pictures from feeding therapy today:) Progress is slow going. The z-vibe helped to wake up her mouth muscles up today and she grabbed a veggie straw and took a bite without hesitation. That was the only bite she took but she practiced breaking them, practicing to brush her teeth with them, etc. She then used a crunchy pretzel stick to stir some jelly and then took a bite. She does not like jelly, jello, or other fruity flavorful things. We are looking into having a swallow study to figure out why she is aspirating when she eats and drinks. I am learning that “Hypotonic” kids tire quickly. Just chewing food and swallowing takes a lot of effort. Emmalee also doesn’t thoroughly chew her food before swallowing. She also stuffs her cheeks and holds food in her mouth. She gets too tired and ends up giving up and spitting her food out. We have a lot of work to do. Every week is a new discovery on how to help her. She is so sweet and the therapist loves working with her. They have so much fun.
